Buddhist Nun Adopts over 30 Abandoned Baby Girls Over 30 Years
A female Buddhist master from Jiangxi Province has adopted more than 30 abandoned babies over the past 30 years.
Shi Changmiao, 52, became a nun at the age of 15. She became the abbot of the Hailian Temple in Ningdu County in March, 1993.
In more than 30 years, she adopted more than 30 baby girls. Some of them were abandoned by their parents because the child was disabled or sick.
Changmiao always lived frugally to have money to educate the girls.
Now more than 20 of these children are adults. Some were admitted to leading universities such as Peking University and Sun Yat-sen University. Some also became nuns.
Changmiao said she always taught children to be self-reliant and learn skills to help them in society.
The venerable master hopes to build an orphanage to give abandoned children a warm home.
