A young girl, a an elementary school sixth-grader, rushed in vain to catch a baby boy who fell from a third-story window in Xingyang of central China’s Henan Province on May 9.
The unattended baby had climbed onto the open kitchen window — which had no protective grid — of a residential building, crying for his mother when he suddenly fell. The incident about 7:19am was captured by a security camera, Henan Daily reported.
Chen Keyu, on her way to school, is seen rushing to try to catch the boy with her bare hands. She did not get there in time, but the baby’s fall was cushioned by a takeout food box on an e-bike parked below and she immediately gathered him into her arms from the ground.
Passers-by immediately called an ambulance and police.
The baby was rushed to hospital at 7:31. Although he suffered no major injuries, he had a fever and was hospitalized for observation.
