New Metro station to become China's deepest
Chongqing’s Hongtudi Station on Metro Line 10 will become China’s deepest metro station once the first phase of the project is completed at the end of the year.
The station will reach a depth of more than 94 meters, equivalent to the height of a 31-storey building. Metro riders will need to take six sets of escalators to reach the ground from the platform, and vice versa.
Currently the Hongtudi Station on the city’s Metro Line 6 is China’s deepest — at a depth of 60 meters — sitting three times deeper than a standard air raid shelter.
That station, which opened on December 30, 2014, requires passengers to spend three minutes traveling between ground level and the platform.
