Sanitation Worker Donated Up to 170,000 Yuan in the Past 30 Years
Zhao Yongjiu, a 56-year-old sanitation worker in Shenyang, capital of northeastern China’s Liaoning Province, has funded 37 impoverished students with a total of 170,000 yuan (US$24,705) for over 30 years.
Zhao sold his only property and rented a single room in Shenyang for 600 yuan per month in order to save as much money as possible to donate to the students, reported Beijing Youth Daily.
Zhao and his mother lived a tough life and couldn’t even always have enough food after his father died in 1976. They pulled through with the help of neighbors. At that time, Zhao made his mind that in the future he would return to the society.
He earns 2,400 yuan monthly for two sanitation jobs. He leaves home at 4:30am and goes back at 9pm. Although he lives a hard life, Zhao keeps donating money to the needed.
