Man Apologizes for Scribbling on Rocks in a Beijing Scenic Area
A man named Chen Zhicheng has called local authorities and apologized for his ugly graffiti writings in a scenic spot famous for mountain rocks in Fangshan District of Beijing.
Chen, a 53-year-old Beijinger, was found to have written in red oil paint his name and travel date on 13 places in the tourist site.
Chen went to the scenic area again to clear the stains after staff with the tourist site had used 50 kilograms of paint thinner to clean the rocks for a whole day. Chen promised to clean all the writings in 13 places.
Chen said he doodled on the rocks just as a souvenir because he thought he would most likely not be able to climb those mountains any more due to his age. But now he has realized his faults after a family member reminded him of his silly deed.
The incident has drawn great attention on Internet and many expressed criticism toward the improper behavior.
Authorities with the scenic spot have accepted Chen’s apology, but he will be likely put in a blacklist by Beijing tourism authorities.
