Police has arrested an artful dodger who pretended to be a Good Samaritan.
A surveillance camera in an Internet café, in Hefei, captured a crafty man appearing to do a good deed to a customer in the establishment on June 24. But the whole process turned out to be nothing but a ruse and distraction so he could steal a mobile phone.
Footage reveals how the suspect entered the Internet cafe and scattered some small change on the floor near his intended victim who was focusing on his computer. The suspect then tapped the man on his right shoulder and alerted him to money on the ground. As the man bent down to pick up the money the suspect sneakily took his mobile phone on the desk and left the property.
The man immediately discovered his phone was missing and called police.
After checking the CCTV footage, police found that the suspect had fled the scene by taking a motorcycle taxi. They finally caught him at another Internet bar that night when he was preparing to commit a crime with the same trick.
A police investigation revealed that the suspect has a criminal record and has been detained.
