A university teacher in Zhangye, northwest China's Gansu Province, who punished his students by ordering them to slap each other in the face, has been dismissed.
The teacher, Lu Ping, who worked at Hexi University, told students who came late to class to slap each other outside the classroom before entering.
A video of the incident was released online on December 8 and went viral.
Lu, who’s in black in the video, can be seen slapping two female students during the incident.
The video caught the attention of the Gansu Education Department who ordered the university to investigate the case immediately.
The university issued a statement on December 9, saying it had dismissed Lu as he violated the teachers' code of morality, insulted, beat and harmed students, and damaged teachers' image and the reputation of school as well. The university ordered Lu to make a public apology to all the involved students. It said it would provide the students with psychological counseling.
