A tamer at Fuzhou Zoo in southeast China’s Fujian Province has been suspended after he abused a black bear during an animal show, footage of which was shot by one of the audience on May 14.

Authorities at the zoo have also suspended the show.

The video shot by Weibo user “Norton-Y” shows the tamer kicking the bear’s crotch when it failed to jump hurdles.

The tamer ignored spectators’ shouts not to hurt the bear. “Norton-Y” said the tamer threw the bear’s food onto the ground in anger at its failure to perform in the cycling show.

The performance lasted about 10 minutes. “Norton-Y” left with his two kids before the show ended.
