1 Chinese killed, 3 injured in Egypt
A mini-bus overturned yesterday morning on the highway from Egypt's Aswan to tourist attraction Abu Simbel, killing one Chinese tourist and leaving another three Chinese nationals injured, a Chinese embassy official confirmed to Xinhua news agency.
"The accident happened at around 6:30am local time, 50 kilometers from Abu Simbel," said Zhang Baoqi, director of consular affairs at the Chinese embassy in Cairo.
The four tourists were all initially injured, but one later died in hospital, Zhang said.
Colonel Salah Eddin Mohamed, head of Abu Simbel Tourist Police Station, told Xinhua that "the tourist who was killed in the accident was a 24-year-old Chinese man."
He was admitted to Abu Simbel International Hospital but "stopped breathing at 9am," said Mohamed.
"The tourist microbus belongs to al-Tawfik Tourist Company," Mohamed added.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
On Tuesday, nine tourists from China's Hong Kong were among 19 people killed in a hot balloon explosion in Egypt's southern province.
Egypt has been struggling to bring back foreign tourists after two years of social instability since a popular uprising ousted the regime of Hosni Mubarak.
