1 dead as floods hit Greek island

AUTHORITIES in Greece say a police officer has died during flash floods that inundated homes and cut off roads on the island of Evia.

Police say the officer's car was swept off a flooded road and into a nearby river. The body of the 39-year-old man was recovered early today.

Local authorities in Evia say dozens of homes and businesses have been flooded, several main roads have been cut off, and a bridge has been destroyed following heavy overnight rainfall.
