AT least 12 people were killed yesterday in the United States and Canada as the megastorm Sandy slammed into the US East Coast, tearing down trees and power lines with hurricane-strength gusts.
Local officials in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina reported 11 dead, and Toronto police said a Canadian woman was killed by flying debris.
