2 die, 103 missing after ship sinks in Russia's Volga river

Rescuers found the body of a second victim after the cruise ship "Bulgaria" carrying over 180 sank in Volga river yesterday, Russia"s Investigative Committee said in a statement.

"Both women have died," the statement said.

According to the latest news from the Russian Emergencies Situation Ministry, there were 185 people aboard the double-decker ship, 80 of them have been rescued, while 103 others were still missing.

The ministry spokeswoman Irina Andrianova said chances of finding more survivors were "very small."

Earlier, the ministry said there were 188 people aboard the ship, 85 of them have been rescued by a passing ship "Arabella", 102 others were missing.

The ministry also said rescuers would work round the clock to save more people from the scene.

The Bulgaria, built in 1955, sank at 13:58 Moscow time (0958 GMT) near the village of Syukeyevo in the Kansko-Ustinovsky district of Russian republic of Tatarstan.

A survivor told local reporters that the ship sank in the Volga river in only three minutes.
