32nd International Regatta of Bathtubs held in Dinant, Belgium

DINANT, a town in the Belgian province of Namur (south), hosted on Friday its 32nd International Regatta of Bathtubs whose theme in 2014 is the bicentenary of the birth of Adolphe Sax.

This year, despite the rain, there were 28 boats on the Meuse and about 30,000 spectators on both banks of the river.

"The tubs can not be towed by a motor and it must be in contact with the water," said the coordinator of the regatta Jean-Olivier Meyfroidt in an interview with Xinhua.

Each participant is rewarded, he said, and there are different prices, such as prices of the theme, beauty, originality, the town of Dinant and the furthest candidate, etc.

The awards are equivalent to 150 to 1000 euros, the price of the theme is worth the most, he said.

Each year, on Aug. 15, the non-profit association Sax Commerce organizes the International Regatta of Bathtubs in Dinant.

Born in Dinant, Belgium in 1814, Antoine Joseph Sax, famous as Adolphe Sax, is a Belgian musical instrument factor, best known for having invented the saxophone in 1846.
