35 missing in boat sinking accident in Malaysia

AS of 13:45 pm local time on Wednesday, 35 people were still missing after a boat carrying 97 foreigners sank near Sungai Air Hitam off the western coast of Malaysia.

Two people had been confirmed dead and 60 rescued, Malaysian official told a press conference on Wednesday.

Mohamad Hambali Yaakup, head of the Port Klang office of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, said those were rescued included 47 men, 12 women and one child.  

 "The two dead were one man and one woman," said the official.

He said all the passengers were Indonesian nationals, according to the investigation with the victim who had been rescued.

The accident happened at 00:30 am local time on Wednesday, when it was a windy weather and the waters were tough, said the official, adding, "the boat sank very near the shore."

Mohamad Hambali said 10 boats, one helicopter and 91 personnel had been dispatched for the search and rescue operation.
