4 held over New York plot
PAKISTAN has detained at least four people suspected of links with a failed bid to set off a car bomb in New York's Times Square.
They include a person who worked for a catering company servicing embassies in Islamabad.
"They have been picked up on suspicion that they knew Faisal Shahzad," a Pakistani security official said, referring to a Pakistani-American, Faisal Shahzad, arrested over the bombing bid.
"We have not yet established whether they were involved in what he did," said the official.
He said four people had been picked up while another security official said five people had been detained. The New York Times reported that an army major was among those held.
The failed Times Square bombing on May 1 has revived international fears about Pakistan, a US ally in the war against militancy, being a breeding ground for Islamist violence.
