40 dead, 20 missing in landslide in Papua New Guinea

A landslide has struck two villages in Papua New Guinea, leaving up to 40 people dead and another 20 others missing, local media report today.

The accident occurred in the island state's Southern Highlands.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said it was not clear how many people have been affected due to conflicting reports.

Reports said that Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has rushed to the scene.
