5.3-magnitude quake hits central Mexico, no casualties reported

AN earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted 8km WNW of Tulcingo del Valle, central Mexico at 16:30:08 local time (22:30:08 GMT) on Friday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 52.72 km, was initially determined to be at 18.0698 degrees north latitude and 98.5098 degrees west longitude, 163 km southeast of Mexico City.

The quake could be felt in Mexico City and lasted for only seconds, sending hundreds of people out of buildings. But many of them returned soon.

No casualties or damage have been reported so far.
