5.6-magnitude quake jolts near Ibaraki, Japan
A quake measured at 5.6 magnitude hit Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan at around 3:12pm GMT Tuesday, while strong tremor was felt in Tokyo, according to Japan's Meteorological Agency.
The quake did not trigger tsunami alerts, local reports said.
The epicenter was initially detected at 36.1 degrees of north latitude, 139.9 degrees of east longitude, with a depth of 50 km.
The quake was registered at lower 5 of Japan's seismic scale of 7 in parts of Tochigi, Gunma and Saitama prefectures.
Parts of Shinkansen bullet train in the region were postponed due to quake, said Japan's NHK, adding nuclear power plants in the region found no abnormality after the temblor.
No immediate reports on damage and injuries as of now.
