6.1-magnitude quake jolts off Aomori, northern Japan

A 6.1-magnitude quake jolted off Aomori prefecture in northern Japan at around 12: 43 local time today, according to Japan's Meteorological Agency.

The quake was registered at lower 5 level in Japan seismic scale of 7 in parts of the prefecture.

The epicenter was initially detected at 41.1 degree of north latitude and 142.3 degree of east longitude, with a depth of 50 km. No tsunami warnings were triggered and no immediate reports on injuries and damage.
