6.5-Magnitude quake strikes Mexico

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico early today, shaking buildings in Mexico City, the US Geological Survey and Reuters witnesses reported.

The quake's epicenter was 8 miles (14 km) east of Oaxaca, Mexico, the USGS said. The quake was felt in Mexico City, where some people fled their houses in the city center, a Reuters witness reported.
