7 die in coal mine

At least seven villagers were killed and five others injured yesterday when a heap of coal collapsed on them at a coal mine in eastern India, an official said. About half a dozen villagers were feared to be trapped in the debris and rescue work was continuing, said a spokesman for state-owned Mahanadi Coalfield Limited. The spokesman said the villagers trespassed into the mine, 650 kilometers west of Bhubaneshwar, capital of Orissa State, to steal coal.
