7.0-magnitude quake hits Honshu in Japan

AN earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit the east coast of Honshu in Japan at 5:50am (Beijing Time) today, said the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 39.9 degrees north latitude and 142.6 degrees east longitude with a depth of 20km, the center said in a statement in its Web site.
