8 wounded in grenade attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir

AT least eight people including a junior level officer of India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were wounded Saturday in a grenade attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade attack was carried out by suspected militants in the heart of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian- controlled Kashmir.

"Suspected militants today threw a grenade towards a CRPF bunker near Ganta Ghar-Lal Chowk (red square), which exploded outside it wounding eight people including a sub-inspector of CRPF, " a senior police officer said.

A police spokesman said all the eight persons wounded were immediately removed to hospital for treatment and their condition was stated to be stable.

The intensity of the blast smashed windshields of the parked cars near the bunker and glass shreds were seen scattered on the road.

The attack created panic in the city center, locals said.
