Egypt’s election committee said yesterday 98.1 percent of voters approved a new, militarybacked constitution in the first vote since a coup toppled the president. Egypt’s High Election Commission said 38.6 percent of more than 53 million eligible voters took part. Egypt’s first freely elected president, Mohammed Morsi, was removed in July.
