ABOUT 30 people were injured aboard a Northwest Airlines Boeing 747-400 flight that landed in Tokyo's Narita Airport from the Philippines today, local media reported.

The plane was hit by turbulence while circling above waters off Chiba Prefecture awaiting permission to land at Narita airport, transport ministry and fire department officials said.

Two people were seriously injured and about 30 others sustained minor injuries, Kyodo News quoted local fire department officials as saying. But ministry officials said they received information that 26 were injured, 10 seriously.

The Boeing 747-400 with 408 passengers and 14 crew members landed at Narita airport at 12:19 pm today, according to officials of the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry.
