Air India flight makes emergency landing in Pakistan
AN Air India aircraft flying from Abu Dhabi to Delhi made an emergency landing at Pakistan's Nawabshah airport in Sindh province this morning, said local TV channel Times Now.
The flight, with 130 passengers on board, made an emergency landing due to suspected hydraulic failure. All passengers are safe, said the report, showing TV footage of Pakistan's Geo TV channel.
Air India is sending a relief aircraft with engineers from Delhi to Pakistan's Nawabshah this morning, said the report.
The captain of the Airbus aircraft contacted Pakistani authorities and sought permission for an emergency landing after detecting the problem with the hydraulic system, civil aviation authority spokesman Pervez George was quoted as saying.
The captain preferred to have the passengers remain on board the aircraft though Pakistani authorities had offered to allow them to disembark, George said.
The plane landed at Nawabshah airport in southern Sindh province at 03:37 am local time.
An Air India spokesperson said that the aircraft was flying over Pakistan air space when the pilot saw a warning light in the cockpit and sought permission to land at Nawabshah, the nearest airport.
