Airbus A320 carrying 148 crashes in French Alps, no survivors expected

AN Airbus A320 plane crashed on Tuesday in the southern French Alps, security sources said.

The plane had 148 people onboard including six crew members, a civil aviation official said.

The official said there had been "a loss of radar of Germanwings flight GWI18G," which is thought to have been carrying 142 passengers, two pilots and four stewards.

One of the sources said the plane belonged to Germanwings, an affiliate of German airline Lufthansa, travelling between Barcelona and Dusseldorf. The single-aisle A320 typically seats 150 to 180 people.

No survivors are expected in the crash, French President Hollande reportedly said.
