'American Sniper’ wins weekly box office

"American Sniper", a film with six nominations for the 87th Academy Awards, won the weekly box office with an estimated US$90.2 million in ticket sales on its first weekend of wide release.
The Clint Eastwood-directed movie opened at 3,555 locations, adding 3,551 more than last week. The film earned an "A+" ranking from first-night movie-goers and 73 percent positive critics from RottenTomatoes.com.
The R-rated comedy "The Wedding Ringer" was in the second place, with 21 million dollars in sales through Sunday.
"Paddington" was just behind, with 19.3 million dollars in estimated three-day sales. Last weekend's number one, "Taken 3" was on track for a 14.1 million, and "Selma" was in the fifth place, with an estimated 4 million dollars.
