Bolivia leader: Chavez in therapy for return
BOLIVIAN President Evo Morales says his ally Hugo Chavez "is now receiving physical therapy" after cancer surgery in Cuba so that he can return home to Venezuela.
Morales says he expects to see the Venezuelan president attending "international events" soon. He says he recently spoke to someone in Cuba about Chavez, but did not elaborate.
Morales made the comments to his country's congress yesterday.
Chavez has not been seen or heard in public since undergoing cancer-related surgery in Cuba on December 11, though Venezuelan officials insist his health is improving.
On Monday, Venezuela's top diplomat said he shared jokes and laughed with Chavez during a meeting in Cuba.
Foreign Minister Elias Jaua spoke about the meeting in messages on his Twitter account, providing an upbeat account nearly six weeks after an operation that pushed the president out of public view.
In an initial message, Jaua said: "Coming out of the meeting with our President Comandante Hugo Chavez. We shared jokes and laughed."
"He asked me to pass on, to the people and the Armed Force, his thanks for so much loyalty," Jaua said in another message, using the formal name for Venezuela's military.
Jaua also said Chavez made decisions "about our participation" in an upcoming summit meeting in Chile.
