Bomb alert at Madrid's city-center train station
PEOPLE were evacuated from a train station in central Mardrid on Friday following a bomb threat which turned out to be a hoax.
Police arrested a man who threw a rucksack onto a commuter train at the Atocha railway station and threatened to set fire to himself.
Several commuter trains were suspended before arriving at the station. The station reopened before midday after a thorough check of the train by members of the Spanish military bomb disposal unit, who found the rucksack contained a bottle of water.
Atocha was one of the scenes of Madrid's train bombings in 2004. The explosion of bombs planted by a group thought to be linked to Al Qaeda killed 191 people on March 11, 2004 in Madrid.
