Bus crashes near Syracuse, NY, 4 dead

AUTHORITIES say a double-decker bus heading to Toronto hit a railroad bridge in central New York, killing four people and injuring 25 others.

The Megabus was carrying 29 people, including the driver, when it rammed the bridge around 2:30 am yesterday on the Onondaga Lake Parkway in Salina, a suburb of Syracuse.

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh says four passengers and the driver remain hospitalized. Twenty passengers, including seven Canadian residents, were treated and released.

Walsh says he believes the bus made a wrong turn when getting off the interstate and was too tall to make it under the low-clearance bridge.

A spokesman for Coach USA, which operates Megabus, says the bus left Philadelphia at 10 p.m. Friday heading to Toronto with stops in Syracuse and Buffalo.
