'Captain America' beats 'Potter' at box office

SUPERHERO movie "Captain America: The First Avenger" triumphed over the US and Canadian box offices with US$65.8 million in weekend ticket sales, according to studio estimates released yesterday.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2" finished second with US$48.1 million as its domestic sales fell sharply from the film's record-breaking opening last weekend. Romantic comedy "Friends with Benefits" held the No. 3 spot on box office charts with US$18.5 million.

"Captain America" was released by Parmamout Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc. Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, distributed "Deathly Hallows - Part 2." "Friends with Benefits" is from Screen Gems, a unit of Sony Corp.
