Chaplin goes on auction

A bowler hat and cane that belonged to silent film star Charlie Chaplin and became the British actor's iconic trademarks, the staple of Hollywood silent-era comedy, were sold for US$62,500 in Los Angeles on Sunday, auction house Bonhams said. They are the highlights of an auction of popular culture artifacts that is ongoing. Other items include a handwritten letter from John Lennon in which the Beatle sketched himself and wife Yoko Ono nude.
