Charles: I did not ask color of grandchild

Prince Charles鈥 spokesman yesterday rejected a claim made in a book that the heir to the British throne had questioned what the skin tone of Prince Harry and Meghan鈥檚 child would be.

In the book, 鈥淏rothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan,鈥7, author Christopher Andersen says Charles asked what the 鈥渃omplexion鈥 of the child would be.

鈥淭his is fiction and not worth further comment,鈥 Charles鈥 spokesman told reporters in Barbados, where he is taking part in celebrations marking the island鈥檚 move to a republic.

According to the Page Six celebrity news website, the book relates an alleged conversation between Charles and his wife Camilla. On the morning of Harry and Meghan鈥檚 2017 engagement, Charles said: 鈥淚 wonder what the children will look like?鈥

Camilla was apparently 鈥渟omewhat taken aback鈥 and replied: 鈥淲ell, absolutely gorgeous, I鈥檓 certain,鈥 Page Six said.

The book said Charles, lowering his voice, asked: 鈥淚 mean, what do you think their children鈥檚 complexion might be?鈥

The book, due for release today, stops short of claiming that Charles is the unidentified 鈥渟enior royal鈥 who Meghan in a March interview with Oprah Winfrey accused of raising concerns about how dark their son鈥檚 skin might be.
