Chinese beat the French in finding the joy of sex
NEARLY 70 percent of educated adults in China are enjoying good sex, more than triple the rate of their peers in Japan and surpassing even the French, according to a survey by a major condom producer.
The Sexual Well-Being Global Survey, published this week, said that a larger proportion of respondents from China were fully satisfied with their sex lives than the 54 percent who were happy with their sack time in the United States and France's 47 percent. Only 22 percent of the Japanese respondents from similar backgrounds expressed the same view.
The study also suggested that only half of the adults in China believe they have enough access to information about sex. About 80 percent said they received information in school, but it was mostly about the mechanics of sex and contraception. Information about love, respect and sharing the joys of sex was insufficient, the Chinese said.
Some 37 percent of domestic respondents said they were never taught about sexually transmitted diseases and sexual emotion.
In addition, more than 60 percent said they learned about sex though reading and only 12 percent of them heard about the birds and the bees from their parents.
The international survey was conducted among 26,032 people in about 30 countries to gain insights into sexual well-being and the part it plays in overall happiness. Around the world, the average rate of sexual satisfaction stood at 59 percent.
The report by the Durex condom company concluded that greater knowledge about sex brings increased sexual well-being.
"The more one knows about sex, the more he or she will understand and the more likely it is that one will better enjoy his or her sex life," said Kevan Wylie, chairman of British Society of Psychosomatic Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Andrology.
