Chinese one of priority languages for schools
ALL Australian schoolchildren will be able to learn Chinese, Hindi, Japanese or Bahasa Indonesia under a new government strategy to increase Australia's engagement with Asia.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced yesterday all Australian schools will work with schools in Asia to develop courses in the four priority languages. She said one third of senior public servants "will have deep experience in and knowledge of Asia" by 2025.
Gillard advocated boosting trade in sectors such as financial, services, tourism, health and manufacturing.
