Chinese shooting victim doing well
A CHINESE student injured in Friday's shooting in Binghamton was in a stable condition in a local hospital, a Chinese diplomat said.
Consuls from the Chinese Consulate General in New York, Liu Junhua and Wang Tao, arrived in Binghamton on Friday night and visited the student at Lourdes Hospital.
The student was shot in the right arm and right leg and underwent surgery in the afternoon, Liu said without disclosing the student's name or sex.
The student was doing well, remained conscious and had no difficulty speaking, Liu said.
The student was attending a language class at the American Civic Association when several gun shots were heard outside the classroom, Liu said. Then the gunmen stormed in and opened fire at about a dozen people.
By using a chair as a shield, the student only suffered relatively minor injures in the arm and leg, Liu said. But the student remembered seeing someone get shot at after trying to subdue the gunman.
The gunman left the room and took people hostage in another room, Liu said.
It remains unclear whether other Chinese are among those injured or killed.
