Chinese trying their luck
WITH the Powerball jackpot in the US at a record US$1.5 billion, many Chinese are trying their luck via online agents.
One vendor on Taobao, China’s largest e-commerce platform, said he had received 177 orders for tickets on Tuesday.
He launched his lottery service after seeing a news report about the jackpot.
He found business partners in Chicago willing to buy lottery tickets for him and charges his customers 50 yuan (US$7.6) for a US$2 ticket. He also wants 3 percent of any winnings.
However, Shanghai lawyer Zhang Jie said the business was likely illegal and any winners could struggle to collect their money.
