Climber concedes to No. 2 spot

SPANISH climber Edurne Pasaban conceded she is the second woman to scale the world's 14 highest peaks but questioned whether the South Korean woman who holds the title actually completed the record.

South Korea's Oh Eun-sun beat Pasaban to become the first woman to conquer the world's 14 peaks over 26,247 feet (8,000 meters) when she scaled Mount Annapurna in Nepal last month.

"I accept I am the second," Pasaban told reporters in Nepal's capital, Katmandu.

Pasaban, however, questioned whether the Korean climber had actually conquered the highest mountains.

"She still has not shown us photographs of all the summits she has climbed. She says she has proof but so far has not shown it," Pasaban said.

Pasaban, 26, has challenged Oh's climb of Mount Kanchenjunga in 2009, saying she was also on the mountain during that time and the weather was terrible. She said Oh needs to show photos of her on the summit.

"The photo she showed has rocks on the background but the summit area at the time was fully covered with snow," Pasaban said.

On returning from the mountain to Katmandu earlier this month, Oh said she had proof to back her climbs.

Nepal has issued Oh a certificate saying she has scaled Kanchenjunga.
