Crop prediction

A UN food agency says early indications point to a drop in world cereal production. The Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization says fewer plantings and bad weather are likely to lower production in most of the world's major producer countries. The agency said yesterday that a smaller maize crop is expected in southern Africa and that dry weather in parts of China and India is affecting wheat output. Food prices remain high in many developing countries despite a decline in the second half of 2008.
