DPRK slams US annual human rights report

THE Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday slammed the annual report on human rights issued Thursday by the United States, saying it was a sinister attempt to overthrow its socialist system.

"The US is dreaming a foolish dream that any 'change' would take place in the DPRK, just something such as provoking a side-splitting laughter," the unnamed DPRK foreign ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by the official KCNA news agency.

He rebutted the US reports on human rights practices in 2014, saying that "the US will see the DPRK's military muscle increasing in every way and its people enjoying a happy life under socialism."

The spokesman also warned of "tougher countermeasures" if Washington persists in its hostile policy toward the DPRK.

"The world will clearly see how the DPRK will smash the US moves for isolating and stifling it," he added.

The US State Department released Thursday its annual global human rights report for 2014, which described the DPRK human rights record as among the worst in the world.

The United States, a self-claimed human rights defender, blatantly accuses other countries of human rights failings without paying any attention to its prevalent rights abuses.
