DPRK successfully conducts nuclear test: KCNA

THE Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said today that it has successfully conducted a third nuclear test to safeguard national security against US hostile policy, the official KCNA news agency reported.
The South Korean Defense Ministry earlier confirmed that the DPRK has conducted a nuclear test. The confirmation came after a 5.1-magnitude earthquake was detected in the DPRK, a potential sign that the country conducted its third nuclear test.

According to Yonhap, the earthquake was detected at 11:57 local time (0257 GMT) in the DPRK's Kilju County, North Hamkyung Province, where a nuclear test site is located.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said today that Japan will immediately convene a security meeting after an "artificial quake" was detected in the DPRK.

Suga said that the Japan Meteorological Agency detected a 5.2 magnitude earthquake with the epicenter locating at 41.2 degree north latitude and 129.3 east longitude in the DPRK territory.

Suga said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has ordered relative government organs to analyze the tremor information and the possible nuclear test.

Abe also said Japan will seek close communication with the United States, South Korea and China on the issue, according to Suga.
UN Security Council will meet to discuss the issue.
