DSK faces writer rape probe

FRENCH police questioned Dominique Strauss-Kahn for three hours yesterday over accusations that the former International Monetary Fund chief tried to rape a writer during a 2003 interview, a judicial official said.

The interrogation was the latest chapter for Strauss-Kahn, also known as DSK, which saw attempted rape and other charges against him dropped in a separate case brought by a New York hotel maid. The prosecutor withdrew the charges due to concerns about the credibility of the maid.

Strauss-Kahn quit his job as IMF managing director during the media storm that arose when the case became public on May 14.

Strauss-Kahn, a Socialist politician who had been seen as a leading contender in next year's presidential race, returned to France about a week ago after months in New York battling the rape charges brought by the maid.
