Death Toll from India train derailment rises to 38
THE death toll from the train derailment in northern India Friday has risen to 38, said local media Saturday.
Meanwhile, more than 150 people were injured in the accident.
Though the exact cause of the derailment was not immediately known, officials at the mishap spot said the train apparently overshot a signal because of a possible brake failure before coming off the rails, according to Press Trust of India.
The deadly incident took place when the engine and two coaches of the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express derailed near Bachrawan railway station in Uttar Pradesh state's Rae Bareli, some 50 km from the state capital Lucknow.
