Death toll in Japan nursing home fire rises to 9
DEATH toll from a nursing home fire in Japan late Thursday evening has risen to 9 after two more people have died in hospital, police said today.
Police earlier had recovered seven bodies after the fire, which burned the three buildings of the nursing home in Gunma Prefecture north of Tokyo.
There were 17 people in the facility at the time of the fire, which broke out at around 11 pm Thursday and was put out about two hours later.
The remaining people were reported to be safe.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire and did not rule out the possibility it was arson.
