Death toll in Pakistan mosque attack reaches 95

MORE people died of injuries after yesterday's deadliest suicide bombing in a Pakistani tribal region, bringing the death toll to 95, officials and local media said today.

A suicide bomber on foot struck a mosque at the tribal region of Darra Adam Khel, some 30 kilometers from Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, when hundreds of people were offering prayers.

Over 80 people, most of them critically, were injured in the attack.

A total of 63 people were killed on the day of the attack and officials in Darra Adam Khel said that several injured died of wounds in hospitals.

TV channels reported that death toll reached 95.

Pakistani Taliban from Darra Adam Khel area claimed responsibility for the attack.

Officials said that the bomber wanted to target a pro-government tribal elder, who was believed to be in the mosque for Friday prayers.

Around 100 people were killed in a suicide attack on tribal council or jirga in Darra Adam Khel one and half year ago.

The security forces had launched major operation in the region two years ago and killed or expelled militants.

Last night, another hand grenade attack on a mosque near Peshawar killed at least four people and injured over 20 others.

Police said unidentified people threw four grenades on the people inside a mosque during prayers.
