Death toll of Indonesia's landslide rises to 17
RESCUERS had found 17 corpses and suspended searching for the 91 missing persons after Friday's landslides buried dozens houses in Banjarnegara district of Central Java due to heavy downpours, official said here Saturday.
The natural disaster also left 11 people seriously injured and four others suffering minor wounds, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster management agency, told Xinhua via phone.
"The rescue operation is halted as the heavy rain might trigger a repeat of the landslide," he said.
The landslides also blocked roads, creating difficulties for sending heavy machinery equipment to the scene, said Sutopo.
