Disney wants to build production studio outside LA

THE Walt Disney Co. has submitted plans to build a sprawling soundstage and production complex outside Los Angeles in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The company filed plans Wednesday to build Disney/ABC Studios on 56 acres (22.6 hectares) of its Golden Oak Ranch property. The company estimates the project would create some 2,800 full- and part-time jobs and generate a US$522 million economic impact to the region.

The proposed complex would include six pairs of soundstages, talent bungalows, administrative and production offices, storage, a commissary and other amenities.

Disney currently has a shortage of production facilities for its television series.

The proposal now goes to the county Board of Supervisors for review.
