Dozens hurt by strong quake in central Indonesia

A disaster management official says at least 40 people have been hurt and several buildings damaged by a strong undersea earthquake in central Indonesia.

Rustam Pakaya, the head of the Health Ministry's crisis center said today at least 20 people were hospitalized after the 6.7-magnitude temblor, many of them with broken bones.

The quake struck at 3:41 a.m. local time (1941 GMT) near a small island chain near the Lombok resort island.

It had a depth of 11 miles (17.7 kilometers) and had its epicenter about 10 miles (15 kilometers) north-northwest of Sumbawa and 830 miles (1,335 kilometers) east of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
