Ebola case in Poland turns out false alarm

THE man who was hospitalized in Poland on Friday, after being suspected of Ebola virus infection, is not an Ebola virus carrier, the Polish website wp.pl informed on Saturday. He is most probably suffering from malaria.

The people who had direct contact with the men were already sent home, while he himself is being hospitalized in Infectious Disease Hospital in Gdansk. The director of Pomeranian Sanitary-Epidemiological Station, Dariusz Cichy explained that the results of examination towards malaria disease were already confirmed.

However, the patient's results were still sent to the National Institute of Hygiene in order to carry out Ebola virus test anyway. Cichy added that: "The Pomeranian Sanitary-Epidemiological Stations sees the case as closed. Patient will be treated for malaria."

The main premises for suspecting the man of being an Ebola disease case was the fact that he had recently travelled to his homeland - Nigeria and suffered from fever and abdominal pain.

Dariusz Cichy added it was a good opportunity to test out the whole anti-virus spread system in Poland and that exaggerated reaction was still better to underestimating the risk.
